SOCIAL SECURITY - Past present & future / Speaking spells

Ultimamente c'è un gran parlare circa Social Security, viste le numerose release prodotte su svariate label inglesi, e c'è da rimarcare il fatto che, una volta tanto, le voci non sembrano immotivate.
Accanto ad una linea di suono legata alle vibrazioni della dancehall, Social Security riescono sempre ad affiancare una metodica ricerca del particolare nei loro arrangiamenti.
Un esempio perfetto di questa attitudine possono essere i due brani contenuti nell'ultimo vinile sotto l'egida Deep Structure, label da sempre attenta al suono dancehall "intelligente" della drum'n'bass.
"Past present & future" è un techstep rutilante di inserti di amen drummer, dove fa da padrone una selvaggia bassline acida che impazza psicotica per l'intero brano, mentre un robotico sample vocale affiora qua e là nel magma ribollente della ritmica.
"Speaking spells" sposta le coordinate su influenze più funk, aprendo su un intro sognante e onirico, per poi prorompere gommosa e rimbalzante su un irresistibile arrangiamento percussivo, virato di sfregi di synth e sample vocali femminili.
Thumbs up di sicuro per questi due brani, con un'occhio di riguardo, a titolo personale, alla contagiosa flipside.

Lately there's big talk about Social Security, due to a bunch of releases on several english labels, and it's remarkable the fact that, at least some times, the rumours are not unmotivated: Social Security always seem to able to conjugate rather a dancehall attitude as for the sound direction and, still, maintaining a methodic research for the particular in their arrangements.
A perfect example of such attitude can be found on the last vinyl by them under the Deep Structure brand, label that's always on the tracks of the more "intelligent" dancehall sound in drum'n'bass.
"Past present & future" is a glittering techstep, enrichened by amen drummers, where a wild acid bassline dominates, psychotic-like blowing out the whole track, while a robotic vocal sample emerges here and there in the boiling magma of the rhythm.
"Speaking spells" moves the coordinates on more funky influences, opening on a dreamy and oneiric intro, then blowing out, gummy and bouncy, on an in irresistible percussive arrangement, wired of synth scratches and female vocal samples.
Thumbs up for sure, as for these tracks, with a particular accent on the latter, contagious number.
