FRICTION - The lightspeed EP

Il sesto vinile by Advanced, sublabel di CIA, è firmato da Friction, e si muove su coordinate usualmente care al produttore inglese: suono duro e cupo, gran dispiego di breaks e amen drummers e synth ruvidi e distorti.
La titletrack, infatti, mostra subito dove si muoverà l'intero doppio vinile, in altre parole su paesaggi straniti, con ritmiche possenti e acide sferzate di synth: la bassline imperversa su un pattern 2-step rinforzato da frenetiche scariche di breaks.
"Insomnia", co-prodotta da Nu Balance, segue in parte le stesse movenze, aprendo su sinistri pad nell'intro e ossessionando, subito dopo, con una bassline ipnotica e cangiante, che rimbalza in contrasto con la ritmica lineare, momentaneamente dimezzandosi nel riuscitissimo breakdown downtempo e incalzando nuovamente nel reprise.
"Shockwave" si arrotola ispida su una ruvida sezione ritmica, ricca di amen drummers e dalla bassline satura e squadrata, ulteriormente stranita da un acido ricamo di sintetizzatore e squarci di campioni vocali in puro stile oldschool.
Chiude l'EP "Terranova", coprodotta con K Tee, probabilmente la più cupa del blocco, ma anche quella più riuscita: apre su un frastagliato amen drummer, arricchito di minacciosi pad, per poi esplodere, su hoover di synth innestati su una ritmica semplice ma di sicuro devastante impatto, e progredisce alternando drones elettronici in un'atmosfera sinistra e ricca di climax.
Un poker per gli amanti del suono più aggressivo derivato dall'oldschool, e, pur rimanendo nell'ambito di sfumature sonore simili in tutti e quattro i brani, un buon doppio vinile, con "Terranova" un gradino più alto delle altre tracce. Bass in your face.

The sixth vinyl by Advanced, CIA sublabel, is signed by Friction, and moves on landscapes usually dear to the English producer: dark and hard sound, large usage of breaks and amen drummers and rough and distorted synths.
The titletrack, in fact, shows at once where the whole double vinyl will move on, in other words on eerie locations, with powerful rhythms and acid synths lashing: the bassline predominates on a two-step pattern, powered up with frantic shocks of breaks.
"Insomnia", co-produced by Nu Balance, follows partially the same path, opening on dark pads in the intro and obsessing, right after, with an hypnotic and changing bassline, that bounces in contrast with the linear rhythm, temporarily breaking down halved, and, then, blowing out again in the reprise.
"Shockwave" evolves bristly on a rough rhythm section, rich of amen drummers and with a squared and distorted bassline, further "stoned" with an acid synth riff and flashes of sample vocals in pure oldschool style.
"Terranova", co-produced by K Tee, closes the EP: probably the darkest of the block, but, in the same time, the most well-produced: it opens on a notched amen drummer, enriched by menacing pads, and then hitting in full effect, on synth hoovers injected on a simple but sure-shot and devastating rhythm, and, then, progresses alternating electronic drones in an eerie and climax flavored atmosphere.
A poker for the lovers of the more aggressive sound derived by oldschool hardcore, and, though remaining in the same ambit of sound inflections in all the tracks, still is a very good vinyl pack, with "Terranova" one step higher than the other ones. Bass in your face.
