MATHEMATICS - Booty conspiracy

Una piacevole variazione, rispetto al comunque eccellente materiale di ispirazione old-new school usualmente edito da CIA Recording, viene ad essere l'esordio sulla label del trio di produttori newyorkesi raccolti sotto lo pseudonimo Mathematics, che, infatti, generalmente indicano nelle calde e avvolgenti sonorità funkstep la loro direttiva musicale principale (singoli usciti in passato su varie labels, tra cui Breakbeat Science e Hospital).
"Booty conspiracy" punta decisa verso sonorità già abbondantemente esplorate in casa Hospital, un cristallino liquid funk intriso di soul, complice anche un malandrino sample già utilizzato da London Elektricity su "Changes" di un paio d'anni fa: la ritmica fluisce limpida sull'incedere di un basso caldo e amniotico, dove si alternano inserti di sample sia vocali sia strumentali per conferire al brano un'ulteriore patina di black music.
Se la tradizione vuole che sulla flipside in genere vada il brano più strano della coppia scelta per il singolo, questo è anche il caso di "Make U mine", narcotico esempio di come, su una ritmica cavernosa e sporcata di funk, si possa innestare una vera giungla di delay e riverberi. La atmosfera cresce di intensità man mano che gli echi dei vari campioni sonori si intrecciano, dando vita ad una suggestiva tessitura di sonorità acquatiche.
Eccellente divagazione dal pur ottimo suono made in CIA.

A delightful variation, in comparison to the anyway-excellent old-new school inspiration present on every CIA release, is the brand new single on the label by Brooklyn-based producers trio known as Mathematics, that, in fact, usually claim a warm and shining funkstep as their main musical direction (singles released in the past on several labels, between them Breakbeat Science and Hospital).
"Booty conspiracy" points straight towards sounds already well explored in the Hospital releases, a crystalline liquid funk soaked with soul, thanks also to a tricky sample already used by London Elektricity in their "Changes" a couple of years ago: the rhythm flow faultless on the warm and amniotic bassline, where both vocal and instrumental samples alternate to color everything to even further blackness on the arrangements.
If tradition wants that, on the flipside, it’s, usually, where the weirder track of the couple lays, that’s the case of "Make U mine", narcotic example of how, on a cavern-sounding rhythm, trashed with rough funkness, it’s possible to inject a real jungle of delays and reverberations. The atmosphere grows on and on, as the delays of the samples start to cross, giving life to a suggestive texture of aquatic sounds.
