Motion

Nuovo artista nel roaster Infrared: Motion, giovane produttore inglese, presenta il suo primo 12”, in uscita in promo a fine mese e in release ufficiale a novembre. Il lato A è un’ottima traccia vocale (con Hannah C che provvede a dare la voce, in verità molto simile come impostazione a Sian, vocalist di Kosheen) in cui una tipica ritmica in stile Infrared (techstep che guarda al funk…) trasporta i vocalizzi, dubbati ed effettati a dovere, a disegnare trasognate melodie su scure spirali di aspri synth, in un’avvolgente atmosfera che si distende per tutta la durata del brano con suggestivi chiaroscuri. Il lato B, invece, mostra caratteristiche decisamente più minimali: “Suspense” cresce, rimbalzante su percussioni etniche, per costruire una fluida ipnosi su una scarna ritmica techstep gorgogliante di drones gommosi, delineando sonorità sicuramente più sperimentali. Se da un lato questo disco può accontentare sicuramente gli amanti delle tipiche sonorità della label di J Majik, dall’altro, con la presenza di un brano come “Suspense”, può accostarsi come gusti anche ad altri palati, e in entrambi i casi lo fa a livelli decisamente alti per un esordiente: Infrared non ha sbagliato a metterlo sotto contratto in esclusiva, questo è certo. Side A shows an awesome vocal track (with Hannah C providing to the vocals, very close as method to Sian, Kosheen’s lead vocalist), on which a typical Infrared rhythm (techstep looking at the funk...) bring on the vocals, loaded with dub techniques and effects, painting dreamy melodies laid upon dark spirals of harsh synths, in a catchy atmosphere that lays upon the whole durance of the track, full of darkness and light contrasts. The flipside, instead, shows definitely more minimal characteristics: “Suspense” grows on, bouncing on ethnic percussions, to build a fluid hypnosis on a dry techstep rhythm gurgling with gummy synths, drawing sounds definitely more oriented towards the experimental side. On one side this record can surely attract the usual lovers of that particular Infrared sound, while, on the other hand, the presence of a track like “Suspense” can bring on even other listeners, more in habit to the more experimental side of the drum’n’bass sound, and, in both cases, Motion does it properly, at high levels, indeed. Infrared didn't go wrong with making him sign an exclusive deal, that’s sure. Thumbs up.
