Buona lettura!
Hi Ryby, First of all, how are you?
Hi, thanks for asking, New Year has just come, so I'm thinking what will come about and where
In the beginning, there was a fan-zine called Aliens... Alien was initially a printed magazine, which got the form of a web portal during time. It has always brought and I hope, it will continue in the future, pieces of information about the underground, electro and industrial scene. I don't actually remember, when exactly it has arisen, but if anybody is interested in giving a good account of himself or would like to read a few articles, here it is a link: www.aliens.sk What are main problems related to electro promotion in Slovakia? What about your efforts in spreading your exquisite productions worldwide? Perhaps the lack of interest in such kind of music and total cold shoulder from the news media. All stuff is "made up on the knee" and I don't know anybody, who is really devoted. I think a younger generation is missing. And concerning our effort abroad - we try to have our things all around; but sometimes it is really hard. The effort isn't enough sometimes… Some argues that industrial music is too politicized or too filled with eschatological messages (apocalyptic visions, religious matters and so on). We think for example that even non-sense pop could be considered in such a way... But what's your viewpoint about it? Our view is definite. We are the band , which creates music, that's it. We don't mix our opinions with our music, nor any political expression. Otherwise we would be a prison band, hehehe… for that reason we enjoy ourselves as long as possible. We are common people, making their own world and we relax while creating our music. In a case we start to point out any political or religious disorders, it would be someone else, not us. We keep this for ourselves… while drinking with our mates in a pub… dISHARMONY and Oxyd. What are the main differences and points of contact between these two projects? Firstly dISHARMONY was born in our electro speculation. While creating our next phase we realized, we have a slightly different material, darker and more experimental. That's how our project Oxyd has arisen. Sometimes we catch ourselves, that the stuff we produce is sometimes too difficult to classify. So the last character of Oxyd, which name is Larva is completely different than previous releases. We like to make the experiments and create new visual aspects. Than it's more fulfilling, when our releases sound more colorful and different. But still, I think, dISHARMONY will carry on the current stuff… I see you perform with nice fantasy mask (my
preferred one is that picturing an alien..). What about your live stage?
Do you use sampled music or in a way or another you prefer to improvise?
Ouuu, thanks. I already don't know, while we use them. It's our
"concert image". Our live concert isn't rare anyhow, we try to push people to use their ears. Most of our tracks are different than original ones. Concerning the presentation, our live performances are more aggressive. We used to have a guitarist on stage with us, so based on the reactions, we were a bit different than on cd. At present, we are not interested in live gigs, but we don't say no.
Do you remember the first electro-industrial record you listened to? When did your passion for assembling this kind of music begin? A strong question. Probably the Canadian scene; Laibach, In Soto Voce, Borghesia, Young Gods and old Ministry, but I really don't remember. It would be too hard to discover such things. I even remember the tapes were very popular and in order to have own CD player wasn't quite usual. There even wasn't any possibility to burn the CDs!!!! Basically guys from the crewzine showed me wider horizons and that was also a drift to make own stuff. Creation of music and other things followed much later… Have you already perform out of Slovakian boundaries? Yeah. Few times in Germany and Poland and of course in Czech Republic. Unfortunately we didn't have the opportunity to get farther. What are the main differences between American and European band in your opinion? I don't know, whether there will be such differences as the machines for creating are the same everywhere. In my opinion, speaking generally music is quite glutted and there are many projects, similar to each other and it really doesn't matter on which continent they are. I don't like current EBM scene myself. But, I'm always pleased when someone asks me. The more I respect it. What about your equipment? It's not a big thing. Our equipment is Sauron's potential. It's mostly software now. Most of it is Reason and all kinds of virtual boxes. We used to make everything on Roland 505 in the past, and I think we will let ourselves have the pleasure to own its more powerful brother. I like its sound and flexibility. Although contemporary software revolution is insurmountable… Any forthcoming releases on Aliens? What about a DVD with video from your inflammatory gigs? We don't have any concrete plans now. There will be probably new Anhedonia and Terminal State. This year's going to be a bit poorer concerning the releases. We had some troubles with our distro partners, thus we have to sort it out. We'll see. Anyway, we will try to bring new references… But for sure, we don't plan to release any DVD, but we will probably film a video for dISHARMONY's new CD… What's your definition of terrorism? Is it in way or another useful or not?
Phhhh, never thought about this. It's a question for a wider spread of things. You probably think about the world terrorism. Well, every evil arises as a result of something and there is always something behind it. Money or religion. I have heard, nothing can be solved with the violence, but sometimes I have such a feeling, the truth is the reverse. In this case , I have no definition…
Most of Malignant Shields tracks seems to be cinematic. Have you ever co-worked with people involved in movie releases? We like to combine our sound with the film themes. Of course, we would love to co-operate with someone from the film field. If you know someone, let us know… Any piece of advice to readers for a first exploration of Slovakian and Czech underground music scene??? Our survey or legacy and the rest will come. Follow our activities and you will find interesting Slovak and Czech projects. Our zine or our publishing company. We are always pleased when someone finds his/her way to our releases and to what we make. It satisfies us and gives us the chance to move farther. I would like to say hallo and thank Zmijucha77 aka Viper, for her translation of this interview. |
