Phon.O feat.Kevin Blechdom,

Hi Vito Hi Carsten, how are you? I am fine thanks. I like to be busy in a good way. Its lot to learn... I know that you’re on tour now. What about your recent performances? I play 2/3 live and 1/3 I play as a dj. More or less run all very well. Sometimes its a bit anoying if you get a weak soundsystem and the people cant feel the whole sound spectrum. But mostly I got very good response and feedback of the people.
I’ve listened Burn Down the Town. Why did you choose such a title?
The title is stolen from a phrase of Public Enemy and I took it cause it has
(more or less) this 2 meanings:
1.) rock the city, rock the club and
2.) the not so serious meant productive aggression and a little bit of a
riot. I am striking against the konservative boring club-djs who just mix
one style the whole night long. There are so many noce beats and sounds out
of the world. And they just uses 4/4. I mean I like 4/4 too but not the
whole night long. The people just have to have a look to the right and the
left and bring to the middle.
Very “shakeupyourass” style... Compliments! It’s difficult to stay indifferent both to the rhythms and the lyrics... Dirty style, you said. When I heared i firstly thought about some Mo’ Wax groovemakers... Any references to past productions? I think its a lot of different stuff in it. I would say 25% techno history, 25% glitch and cut up scene, 25% timbaland and neptunes productions and 25% dub step, gheto tech, baile funk. I don¹t have one hero. I have a bunch. All those torches looks like torches of freedom, don’t they? Yeah I mean I chose a timeless iconographic cover with a symbol. So it stays for progress for roughness and for freedom and future. The torches on da backside with the flower, the girl and the ice cream symbolise (just a rough) the view with more perspectives.
I’ve read on an infosheet related to your last issue “the downward spiral
continues”! Any work in progress? Any collaboration with NIN?
I worked on a remix for Peter Grummich which comes out in future... Peter
slackes with releasing it. I did a remix for GoldChains and Sue Cie.
I did a remix for Mochipet which hopefully comes soon and I do a new booty
bastard for Keros label detund. I will do more but I have to study right
now, cause I finishing my diploma and thesis. After the study (spring 2006) I
will make music much more intensively. I will have some collaborations in
future but I just talk about when it will be done.
I work or better play with exsample as "the bareback show". So we just play
with Loop records (Locked Grooves) on 4 decks and with effects. Its a lot of
fun and you can learn a lot. We will work on a new Locked Groove record for
Normoton again.
Are you going to come to Italy for a gig? Yoooo I hope so. The Italians just have to book me. I loved and love to play there cause the people are always in a good mood. So hook up a some bookings :-))) What about your activity inside the Kiosk Royal? I work on my diploma with one fellow student and she is a part of our small group. We do free interesting graphical jobs and works together. After the study will come much more. We like to mix our talents to make something fresh. We don¹t have one style. We have a lot :-) What’s the near future for music and design in your perspective? I am pretty slow especially while the study. So till spring I will work on just a few songs for different people who asked for and who I like a lot. After that I will work on the loops for normoton. After that I will make a ep with exsample as "the bareback show" which consists just from this loops. So tracks we played live just with the loops on the decks... After studying I will start workin on a new album which will be ready sometimes in 2007.
