Mozez Interview

Un "debutto" atteso quello di Mozez, voce dei Zero 7. So Still è un outwork personale non solo per i contenuti ma anche per i contenitori, dato che è abbastanza difficile catalogarlo in un genere preciso, anche se l'elemento soul è decisamente quello che più risalta. Grande ugola maschile, afflato intimistico, svalvolamenti su amore, vita e passione, colaborazioni insigni (dal leggendario produttore Guy Sigsworth -Madonna, Bjork, Seal- a Nightmares On Wax). Probabilmente Mozez ci ha consegnato un disco che è destinato a diventare un classico. Incusiorisiti ci siamo fatti una chiacchierata con l'artefice. Hi Mozez. How are you? I am doing well thank you.

You are well known as the voice of Zero 7. Just out of curiosity, was the mood and the source of inspiration for music different from Zero7's workouts and your solo project? The source of inspiration is the same, however So Still is my experiences which changes the mood to a more individual perspective. With Zero7 you are slightly subjected by the subject matter that the other artists are working with.

Has your lyrics any particular addressee? I would'nt say so it's just a vision of life from an individual experience, if my experiences affect anyone toward a deeper sense of meaning then i am happy.

I suppose you received a lot of compliments for your impressive voice... which was the one you still remember as captivately exact? It's difficult to remember the exact refrences However on one occassion a lady said to me 'you don't look like an Angel but God have given you the voice of one'

Any particular episode related to the development of So Still you remember? The track Stay Beautiful was redone nine times and according to my girlfriend it's still not right!

What about your collaboration with guy Sigsworth? It was great working with Guy, he is a great writer and producer. Venus Rise is one of my favourite tracks on the album.

If you should describe your album very sinthetically.... It a fusion of Soul, Jazz, Blues and Electronics.

Are there any artists you'd like to work with? Yes Coldplay, John Legend, and probably Norah Jones

Could you describe the feeling you have when you go into your studio in Maida Vale? My Studio is now in Twickenham....It depends on the weather (smile). I go with the hope of creating something better than what I did yesterday.

We've made a little poll among some friends letting them read your lyrics without knowing who was the author... Most of them said that they are nice and very soulful, but it looks that the author is remotely animated by visions of the days of wrath... a sort of daytime preannouncing a Second Coming of Christ.. Maybe cause it seems that "Western society" mythopoietic is "eschatological" nowadays... To me it's a trying to create a balance, stemming the preoccupation with the things that we know have the potential to cause us grief, contrary to apocalyptic refrence it's a presentation of hope I think.

What about your viewpoint on world facts? What do the humankind need most in your viewpoint? Balance

Any future plans? Are you going to come to Italy for a tour? We hope to be in Italy next year. No dates as yet.

Why don't you come with Mr Terry Callier and set a duet up? It should be really impressive... One of my heroes...would love to.
