Hi folks! How are you?
Good good good.
What about your friendship and collaboration? Harry and I have been friends for years. We both make music independantly, but occasionally get together to make music as a duo. Our first EP came together in a few days and was released on Background in 2003 called 'The Other West Coast'. We called it that because, at the time, West Coast techno artists like Kit Clayton, Sutekh, Safety Scissors and Twerk were blowing up around the scene. Its a vastly different record than the one on Expanding, but you get a similar vibe from it. Collaborating is fun when you have similar ideas, but different skills. When making songs together I realized that Harry is all about feeling and sounds wheras I was able to focus more on groove and structure. Thats why I think things worked well.
Your music perfectly fits to the sonic equation by Expanding. It's
the ability to move "underskin" emotions before capturing ears and
hearts... How should you describe it?
Interesting, emotive, organic/electronic music, I guess? This record is very
downtempo and relaxed and simple.
What about the influence of the nice place you're livin in -Perth- on your lovely music? Do you have any fan-base there? I guess its a pretty relaxed and simple place, like the music! We don't have a very big fan base there... whenever we play it's only small crowds. What do you advise for better appreciating your record? An open mind. A lazy morning. Some good speakers or headphones. Tea, beer, and/or some smoke.
Is there any space for romance in our society? Do you feel the lack
of romance is just an illusion???
There definitely isn't much traditional romance in the common world
- romance is
done differently now.
What about your artistic background? Does it emerge somewhere in Modern Romance? Harry is involved with film, I don't do much artistically apart from music... What about the shot on the cover? Its a photo that fitted the music perfectly. It was taken by Expanding label boss, Paul Merritt. The photo is of a place in Barcelona, one of my favourite cities that I have visited. Are you planning any tour worldwide? We don't have a duo-tour organized, but would love to play around, perhaps we should organize something soon? I play live solo shows reasonably reguarly around Europe though. |
