brasiliani quali Stan Getz. Vi proponiamo una simpatica chiacchierata con Bruno, non prima di consigliarvi l'acquisto di Lovely Arthur.
Hi Bruno. We've been really impressed by your music. Could you speak about the ideas behind Lovely Arthur? Thank you. I think that my album is an old dream that I realized. Since 14 years ago when I discovered the avant garde jazz, my life has changed completely. This kind of music has touched me and I thought that one day I could do something around it. During this period I did lots of different things - I got involved with the brazilian electronic scene, set up a label, released some compilations and the albums of my project O Discurso but now finally I did something that was deeply in my soul. I think that this album is just a beginning. I´ve got lots of things to learn and to do. Why the title Lovely Arthur? This album I dedicated for everybody that helped me directly or undirectly in my whole life. Every song has a dedication and the whole album I dedicated to my son Arthur. Have you prescribed a check on lungs to Marcio after recording Lovely Arthur?
Ha ha! He´s a great sax player really! Marcio works hard - I think that he is used to
playing a lot and keeping in good health. Do you know that he recorded the record in a
lot of pain. He had a tumour in his kidney which luckily was benign. He waited for the
recording of the album to take it out. After that, everything was fine and he was
completely cured. Marcio is a warrior.
How did you integrated instruments with propellerheads's reason? I use Reason to compose. It has got a very good strings sound bank that gave me conditions to have an idea how the arrangements would sound with real instruments being played for example. Almost all the Reason sounds I replaced by real instruments except some beats that I used to add with the Marquinhos´s drum. I really love this tool. Reading "dedicatórias", it looks like you're buddhist. What can you say about that? I became a Buddhist almost 5 years ago. It was a fantastic experience that happened in my life. Buddhism showed me that there are different aspects in a same situation and things that I had never imagined about life. I believe that this album for me was a result of this transformation. Any anectode or particular event related to the recording of Lovely Arthur? Something funny happened - there was a day that our trombone player, Bocato, arrived in the studio with a mute which he had made out of crumpled up newspaper and a plastic bag from the supermarket which he tied on to the end of trombone. He used it to practise in between takes. He only stopped playing when the plastic bag exploded! What's your favourite instrument? It is the trumpet. I started practising trumpet 13 years ago and I stopped suddenly. Last year, I restarted this process and I´ve been practicing it hard everyday. Your Lovely Arthur is out on the Ether label.
But you also founded the renowned Sambaloco, a label with very interesting projects
[personal opinion outside this interview: Patife and Drumagick are the best inside
that roster!]... what about future projects?
In terms of labels, I´m working with Nova Vida that is promoted by Ether guys as well.
I think that Sambaloco played its part and I did the same about brazilian dnb. Now, in
terms of contemporary beats, I´m focusing on the fusion of brazilian music with the
broken beats and the new expressions of jazz like the future jazz and many others.
What are the best places you can check out djing and drum'n'bass in Brasil? I think that Lov.e Club and the parties put on by the Drumagick brothers and many others. I´m not the right person to tell you ´cause I´m not too involved with the scene anymore. Are there any technivals [electronic festivals] there? Yes, there are great festivals here like Skol Beats(São Paulo), Eletronika (Belo Horizonte) and big raves (for 3.000 people) like Xxxperience and Avonts. I know that this year there will be a brazilian edition of Sónar Festival from Barcelona. I think that it will be wonderful.I´ve already played at Sónar in 2001. I know the guy that is bringing the festival to Brazil and he´s very professional. Are you planning a tour in Europe? I´m gonna play Lovely Arthur live during a european tour in October. It will be me and another seven musicians. Thanks for answering. Any yawn? Thank you. Very good questions. I could answer 100 questions like this. Peace! |
